“Game On for Louth GAA —Time to Back It with Funding”- Alison Comyn

New stadium in Dundalk “a game-changer for Gaelic games in Louth”

Fianna Fáil Senator for Louth, Alison Comyn, has welcomed the hugely significant announcement that Louth GAA has been given the green light by Croke Park to proceed with the development of a brand-new county stadium in Dundalk.

Senator Comyn hailed the project as “a game-changer for Gaelic games in Louth” and committed to working closely with her Fianna Fáil party colleague, Minister for Sport Charlie McConalogue, to ensure the development secures vital support under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.

Senator Comyn stated, “This is a fantastic opportunity to build on the rising success of the Louth football team and to give our players, supporters, and young people a stadium they can call home.

“The GAA has thrown the ball in, now it is time for the Government to back it with the funding it needs. I will be working with my party colleague and Minister for Sport Charlie McConalogue to make sure that this project gets the funding it deserves.

“For too long, Louth has been without a proper county ground. Now we have a real opportunity to deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose stadium right here in Dundalk, a venue that will not only elevate Gaelic games in the county but become a true hub for our community.

“As Louth continues to grow in population and prominence, we need infrastructure that reflects our ambition. A county ground isn’t just about sport, it’s about identity, opportunity, and belonging. This stadium will inspire future generations of players, bring families and fans together, and give the county a focal point we can all be proud of.”

With the buzz building ahead of the Leinster Final clash, Senator Comyn couldn’t resist a friendly nod to the upcoming fixture.

“In the build-up to the Leinster Final against Meath, I’ll admit I’m a little torn. My heart is firmly in Louth, but I’ve a lot of friends in east Meath… let’s just say I’ll be celebrating either way — but hopefully in red!”

Senator Comyn concluded stating, “I’ll continue to work with Minister McConalogue and my Fianna Fáil colleagues in Government to make sure this project gets the funding it needs and deserves. Louth GAA is on the rise, and now is the time to match that energy with real investment.”
