D&DAC’s Aoife Mundow smashes women’s record in the Art O’Neill Pursuit

Drogheda & District AC runner Aoife Mundow made a sensational return to Ultra-distance racing on Friday last by winning the Art O’Neill Pursuit in a new course female record time of 2:06:17, taking 9 minutes off the previous best time.

The race started at Dublin Castle and the runners made their way out to Kippure Estate (Wicklow) a distance of approximately 26km with 650m elevation.

Meanwhile, in the U.S, Tadhg Donnelly had another incredible run in the 1500 meters at the Harry Ellis Invitational Meeting in New Jersey. The young man from Clogherhead finished in 6th place for his Iona college team, in a superfast time of 3 minutes 43.97 secs and he is now the 3rd fastest 1500m in Louth ever.

Two Drogs were on tour in Europe Liam Farrell completed the Geneva 10K on Saturday evening, 10th May in 51.15 and Fiona Branigan 1hr 16mins respectively.

Also on Saturday, there was fantastic running from D&DAC Juveniles at the Louth championship at Bush where the sun was shining, the atmosphere was electric and over 40 of the club’s Juveniles took part and won medals galore.

  • Nancy clerkin was 2nd in the U12 shot putt.
  • Isabella Ojo of St Pauls school was 3rd in the under 13 javelin.
  • Euan kirwan was 3rd in the under 13 shotput.
  • Hannah Cunningham was 2nd in the under 14 1500m race.
  • In the under 14 200m heats, Eve Russell was 2nd as was Emily Garvey in her race and Emily Cooney was 4th.
  • Danielle Nolan was 2nd in the under 15 80m hurdles, 1st in the high jumpe and 1st in the 200m.
  • Beatrice Cunningham was 2nd in the under 15 1500m race.
  • Micheal Iloduba was 1st in the under 16 200m.
  • Lily Fitzharris was 3rd in the under 17 200m race.
  • Aine Carroll was 1st in the under 17 1500m race.
  • James Traynor was 3rdin the under 18 200m race.
  • Niamh Carroll was 3rd in both the 200m and the 1500m races at under 19 level.
  • And Cormac Russell took 1st place in the Javelin.

Finally we are delighted to report that Christopher Keenan has been selected to run with the Leinster team in the men’s 1500m in the CSIT games in Greece based on his run last weekend.
