“This submission is about creating a community that’s economically, environmentally and socially healthy. And for me, that starts with making life easier for everyone.”
So said Councillor Elaine McGinty this week after she submitted a set of recommendations for the Laytown/Bettystown Municipal District’s Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 which she says will bring sustainability to every part of the community.
“If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic in South Drogheda, Julianstown or any other part of East Meath, you know the struggle. It’s not just about traffic – it’s about giving people alternative choices to cars and helping our community meet climate goals.”
“I have been working with Meath County Council and the National Transport Authority to get more investment in public transport.
“That means new bus routes on the Beamore and Platin Roads, linking Duleek to surrounding areas, continuing to press for that long-awaited bypass for Julianstown, new and improved footpaths and more connected cycle lanes across the district”
“Improving air quality is another key area that needs to be addressed as is helping and supporting local food producers.
“The Boyne River Task force Bill which I brought forward last year with my Labour Party colleague TD Ged Nash is in train. This is a new law which will underscore the significance of water conservation and the improvement of water quality in the Boyne River and its tributaries”
Cllr McGinty expressed confidence that these recommendations, if incorporated into the Climate Action Plan, will pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient Laytown/Bettystown Municipal District.
