Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease, it turns the lives of those affected and their family members upside down, it slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and eventually it deprives its victims of the ability to carry out the simplest of tasks.
There is no cure but, with groups such as the Alzheimer Society and the amazing work being done at Drogheda’s Tredagh Lodge, there is much love and care available. Love and care in abundance.
The current project at Tredagh Lodge is the construction of a Memory Garden where family members can sit and remember loved ones who may have attended the centre over the years.
This work has been funded by the love and generosity of the people of Drogheda and this week there was another major donation, this time from the Augustinian Community who have donated a very generous €5,000.
Expressing thanks to Augustinian Fathers Colm and Stephen for their very generous donation Ann Shortt, who has been fundraising for Tredagh Lodge for many years, told Drogheda Life that the money will be used for a memory wall which will be built as soon as the garden is complete and will be similar to the Augustinian garden in Shop Street.
“We want to express our sincere thanks to the Augustinian community” she said. “It is a cause close to their hearts. Gerry Leydon and I met with Fr Colm at the memory wall where he presented us with the cheque.
