Pay rise for contract cleaners and security workers welcomed by Nash

Labour TD urges cleaning and security workers to join SIPTU

Laws brought in by Ged Nash have helped deliver pay increases for contract cleaners from 1st June and for security workers from the 1st July.

Speaking at an event organised by the SIPTU Services Division in Drogheda, Deputy Nash said;

“One of the things I am proudest of is the new set of laws I brought in that has delivered, along with SIPTU, rising rates of pay and better terms and conditions for low-paid contract cleaning and security workers. The Joint Labour Committee system is now also being used to provide for agreed pay increases for early years educators.

“In June, the minimum legal rate of hourly pay for contract cleaning workers has gone up from €12.70 an hour to €13.30, and the rates for workers in security will climb to €14.50 per hour from €12.70 from the 1st July.

“In terms of security, the Order signed today will also include an unsocial hours premium of €12.60 minimum payment per shift, increasing to €16.80 per shift from 1 January 2025 and €20.00 per shift from 1 January 2026.

“The laws I brought in that allows this to happen represents real and meaningful work with and for working people, the trade union movement and decent employers.

“Today I met with some contract cleaning staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to discuss these changes with my colleagues in SIPTU. The message was clear – you are better off in a union.”
