Construction of a new playground in Termonfeckin is set to commence in the next couple of weeks, with a focus on creating an imaginative, inclusive play space for children of all ages and abilities.
Louth County Council has announced that the project is progressing, following the appointment of Kompan Ireland Ltd for the design and build of the project. Contractors are expected to begin work at the end of June.
The playground, which is a first for the village, will be located on a site adjacent to Scoil Naomh Feichín.
This project is being part-funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, with matched funding from Louth County Council.
KOMPAN have over 50 years’ experience in building play spaces, and Louth County Council have welcomed design plans which focus on creating a safe, fun playground that will ensure all children feel socially included. With this in mind, all play equipment and products are designed to stimulate children’s development physically, intellectually, socially, cognitively, and emotionally.
The new playground in Termonfeckin will blend with natural surroundings including landscaping and natural play elements and will be inclusive for children of different abilities including wheelchair users.
Louth County Council are committed to the installation of sustainable products which cover six principles of universal and inclusive design:
- Accessibility
- Multifunctionality (when possible)
- 360º design: Play from all sides
- Equipped with diverse play opportunities
- Clear in colour and design signals
- Provided with special solutions for special needs when relevant
David Jones, Director of Services, Placemaking and Physical Development, Louth County Council, said:
“The appointment of a contractor to advance the delivery of the new playground at Termonfeckin is greatly welcomed. We look forward to the creation of this exciting new play space, which when completed will be a fantastic facility for families.”
