A festival in memory of one of Drogheda’s greatest folk singers will take place in the town from Friday Sept 5Â to Sunday Sept 7 next.

The Sean Corcoran Series as it is called will feature a large number of musical, arts and cultural events in various locations over the three days and nights.

Some of the best musicians in the country will be coming to Drogheda to sing and play including celebrated fiddle player Ultan O’Brien, singer and curator Macdara Yeates, plus singer , composer and multi instrumentalist ROIS, BAILE, and Muireann Ni She.

Some of the country’s top writers will also be in attendance including John Banville, Belinda McKeon and Catherine Heaney.

The Festival will have the finest in terms of traditional Irish music, song and dance alongside electronics, Drone, DIY Publishing, poetry, zines, architecture, bog mapping, Palestinian craft, biodiversity, heritage, artisan food, and keening.

One of the highlights is a Night time headline concert in the Augustinian Church on Saturday, Sept 6.

Sean Corcoran apart from being a great singer and musician with a passionate love of Irish folk and traditional music, was also a great exponent of the arts.

He sadly passed away in England at the age of 74 years in 2021.

His late mother, the renowned historian Moira, was a founding member of the Old Drogheda Society and the Millmount Museum.
