Louth Keep All-Ireland Dream Alive

What a day it was in Croke Park as Louth booked their place in the county’s first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final in 69 years.

Gavin Devlin’s side produced a courageous display to defeat neighbours Monaghan by three points despite playing with 14 men for more than an hour following the controversial sending off of midfielder Sean Callaghan.

When the final whistle sounded, thousands of Louth supporters erupted in celebration as the Wee County sealed a famous victory and kept their All-Ireland dream alive.

Louth will now face Mayo in the All-Ireland semi-final at 6pm in Croke Park on Saturday, 11 July. The game will be broadcast live on both RTÉ and BBC, following the Tailteann Cup Final between Down and Wicklow at 3.30pm.

Demand for tickets is expected to be huge, with thousands of Louth supporters hoping to cheer on their team as they bid to reach a first All-Ireland final since 1957.

Belief is growing throughout the county, and as young star Daire McDonnell said after the historic win: “Why not us?”

For now, the dream is very much alive as Louth stand just one victory away from an All-Ireland final.
