Nine childminders in County Louth are set to benefit from development grants designed to enhance the quality of childcare services and learning opportunities for children.
The funding, welcomed by Fine Gael Councillor Ejiro O’Hare Stratton, will help childminders purchase toys, childcare equipment, safety equipment, inclusion supports, and materials for arts and science activities.
Councillor Stratton said childminders play a crucial role in supporting children, families and communities across County Louth and throughout Ireland.
“I am delighted to see €9,000 in funding awarded to support childminders in County Louth. This investment will help enhance the quality of care and learning opportunities available to children in our communities,” she said.
“I want to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of childminders across County Louth who provide excellent care for children and consistently deliver high quality services.”
The grants were available to both established childminders and those planning to start a childminding business in 2026. To help with upfront costs, 75 per cent of each grant will be paid in advance, allowing successful applicants to purchase equipment and resources needed to support their services.
Details of grant awards are expected to be issued to successful applicants in the coming days.
Nationally, €422,000 has been awarded to 424 childminders, representing the highest number of recipients and the largest amount of funding distributed under the scheme since it began.
Councillor Stratton said the increase in funding reflects the growing demand for childminding services and the important role childminders play in supporting families.
“These grants are invaluable in helping childminders further improve the quality of care they provide and ensuring children continue to benefit from safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environments,” she said.
