One of the county’s top footballers is retiring from the Louth team.
Andy McDonnell has decided to hang up his boots after a staggering 103 appearances for Louth in a career spanning over a decade.
The Newtown Blues player will continue to play for his club.
Andy, 35, was one of the heroes of the team that beat Meath in the Leinster Final last summer to win the Delaney Cup for the first time since 1957.
Louth GAA in a tribute said:” We would like to place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation to Andy McDonnell, who has announced his retirement from inter county football.
“ Andy is one of the most naturally gifted footballers to grace our county and words will never match the high standards he set time and time again.”
His father Johnny McDonnell also played for Louth .
Andy’s departure comes after Bevan Duffy also recently announced his retirement from the Louth squad.
The Louth team has just returned from a well deserved holiday in Dubai with their wives and partners.
