Community and sports groups across Louth are set to gain from a major boost in funding following the latest round of allocations under the CLÁR Programme.
Louth Fine Gael TD Paula Butterly said the investment is “a real endorsement of the great work being done by local groups” and will deliver long-lasting benefits for towns and villages throughout the county.
“The facilities receiving this funding will improve key amenities and create better spaces for people to come together whether for sport, cultural events or simply to enjoy shared community areas,” she said.
Minister Jerry Buttimer confirmed that €12.3 million is being awarded to 206 projects nationwide, describing CLÁR as a key pillar of support for rural Ireland.
“It is great to see support for projects in Gaeltacht areas this year,” he said. “These initiatives will make a valuable contribution to the people who live in and visit these communities.”
A total of €14 million has now been allocated to CLÁR projects this year, the highest level since the scheme was revived in 2016.
Deputy Butterly said today’s announcement also reflects the dedication and hard work of local volunteers.
“Their passion for improving Louth has been central to this success,” she said. “Fine Gael’s commitment to supporting local communities has helped make these projects a reality and ensures Louth remains a great place to live, work and visit.”
Fianna Fáil TD Niamh McGreehan also welcomed the funding, saying it represents a significant boost for rural areas.
“This funding will make a real difference in people’s lives, helping to improve local facilities, create safer and more accessible spaces, and bring communities closer together,” she said.
“It helps us build strong, resilient and vibrant communities where families can thrive, young people can grow and stay close to home, and local clubs and schools can continue to flourish.
“Initiatives like this show the impact that can be achieved when communities, representatives and government work together to deliver positive, lasting change.”
Deputy McGreehan added:
“I want to sincerely thank Minister Calleary for his work in making this funding possible and for his collaboration in getting these projects across the line.”
The CLÁR Programme supports community facilities, safety measures and essential local infrastructure in rural areas, with this year’s record investment marking continued strong government backing for rural development.
