A badly needed new pedstrian crossing on the Drogheda-Duleek road is to go ahead.
It will be erected near the entrance to the Wolfe Tones gaelic pitch and make it earlier for pedestrians and children from nearby housing estates to cross the busy road.
The project will be put out to tender by Meath County Council early in the new year and pedestrian crossing should be in place and active by the middle of 2026.
Confirmation of the new pedestrian crossing was given by the council to East Meath Fianna Fail Cllr Stephen McKee this week. He had been campaigning for local residents in the Drogheda area on the issue.
He said: “This is good news for residents in the area.I’ve been lobbying hard for this pedestrian crossing for a period of time now, so this will come as very welcome news for local residents and particularly families from neighbouring estates such as Avourwen and Lagavooren Manor, who hopefully will be able to access the club grounds in a much safer manner.”
The Wolfe Tones is a club on the up with thousands of new people moving into their area.
They won the Louth Junior football championship for the first time in decades in 2024, resulting in mass celebrations for the south Drogheda club.
They also have a massive hurling legacy and last won the senior hurling county title in 1996.
