Sonairte, meaning “positive strength,” is an interactive visitor center in County Meath that promotes ecological awareness and sustainable living. Established as a charity in 1988, it’s situated in a historic farm complex on the banks of the River Nanny.
The center offers a range of activities, including a walled organic garden, a nature trail, a Bee Museum, and an eco-friendly café that uses produce from the garden. Sonairte is a certified organic producer and provides courses on organic horticulture and environmental education.
With a strong focus on zero waste, plastic-free, and low-carbon living, Sonairte features a refill station for cleaning and body care products. The eco shop prioritizes locally produced and fair-trade items, aiming to make sustainable living accessible and affordable for everyone.
The nature trail and river walk at Sonairte can be enjoyed on two different levels – either as a simple stroll through delightful scenery, with enough slopes and steps to give a gentle workout, or as a remarkable opportunity to look at the biodiversity of a wide range of habitats within a limited time span.
