Dunleer is set for a major boost following confirmation that the “Dunleer Energising the Community” project has been awarded €607,904 under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF).
The project, which forms part of the Dunleer Town Centre First Plan, will deliver two key initiatives — public realm enhancement works on Main Street and the revitalisation of the train station area.
Together, the works aim to transform the town centre, strengthen local identity, and create a more attractive and accessible space for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Louth Fine Gael TD Paula Butterly welcomed the announcement, saying the funding recognises the ambition and commitment shown by the community. “I am delighted to see Dunleer receiving this significant investment under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund,” she said. “This funding recognises the vision shown locally to transform Dunleer’s town centre and train station area.”
The RRDF investment will support the planning, design, and technical stages of the project, paving the way for full delivery under future funding rounds.
Deputy Butterly said the initiative will play a vital role in ensuring the town continues to thrive.
“This is another strong step forward for Dunleer and for rural communities across Louth,” she said. “When completed, these works will support local enterprise, improve accessibility, and enhance the quality of life for everyone in the area.”
The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, part of Project Ireland 2040, is a €1 billion programme designed to rejuvenate rural towns, drive economic growth, tackle vacancy and dereliction, and boost tourism.
Deputy Butterly added that the project reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to investing in rural Ireland.
“The Dunleer Energising the Community project is a fantastic example of how national funding can directly benefit local people, helping to revitalise our public spaces and support economic growth,” she said.
