Major Water Network Upgrade Begins in Ardee Next Week

Uisce Éireann will begin major works in Ardee next week as part of its national Leakage Reduction Programme, which aims to strengthen Ireland’s water network and safeguard supply for communities and businesses.

The project will see 670 metres of ageing water mains replaced along John Street and the N2 Drogheda Road. The upgrades are expected to bring significant benefits, including eliminating frequent leaks, reducing the risk of bursts and outages, and ensuring a more reliable supply for households and businesses.

Declan Healy of Uisce Éireann said the works are long overdue:
“This section of the network has burst frequently over the last year, significantly impacting the residents and businesses of John Street as repair works required extensive traffic management and prolonged supply interruptions. By replacing these ageing water mains, we are not only addressing current leakage issues but also preparing the network to meet the demands of future growth.”

He added: “We understand that traffic management can be inconvenient, but we know from experience that the long-term benefits will outweigh the short-term inconvenience. We thank the community in advance for their patience and support as we deliver this vital project.”

The works will be carried out by GMC Utilities Group on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed in early 2026.

  • John Street: Works will run from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, with localised lane closures in place but access maintained for homes and businesses.
  • N2 Drogheda Road: Works will take place at night, between 7pm and 7am, Monday to Friday, to minimise disruption.
