The first cross country event of the season took place in Newtownstalaban in sunny conditions on Sunday, with athletes competing across multiple age groups. It was an open event with athletes from Louth, Meath and elsewhere taking place.
In the U9 boys 500 meter race, Finn Murphy and Moss O’Donnell both running out of age, finished 10th and 11th respectively while Harry Reilly finished 12th. The team finished fourth overall. In the U9 girls 500 meter race, Millie Roche placed 9th.
The U11 girls 1000 meter race saw the Ace AC team win gold. Muireann Chamass was first across the line for the team in 6th place, followed by Cathryn Cumming in 7th and Saibh Jordan in 8th. Amy Walsh made her racing debut in this category and finished very strongly.
The U13’s competed over the 2000m distance. Ollie Marron finished 10th, while Tadgh Kelly produced a strong sprint finish. The U13 girls narrowly missed a team medal, with Caoimhe Carolan, Sophie Black, Sophie Walsh, and Ella Doyle all competing well for the team.
In the U15 boys 3000 meter race, the team won silver. Tayo Lawrence placed 5th overall, followed by Alfie Marron and Adam Cumming.
The U19 girls 4000 meter race was won by Sholah Lawrence, who led from start to finish. In the combined U17 and U19 boys 4000 meter race, Ruairi O’Grainne won the U19 category and Fergus Nolan placed second.
Coach Adrian Black also competed in the Louth County Masters men’s 5k.
Meanwhile on Saturday Danny Nugent won the Termonfeckin 5k in a time of 14.54.
