In wet and windy conditions, with a storm warning looming on the horizon, Boyne AC athletes braved the elements and represented their club with pride at the Leinster Cross-Country Championships in Dunboyne, Co. Meath.
The familiar green and yellow of Boyne AC was visible throughout the day, as athletes from the club tackled challenging conditions, cheered on by a supportive contingent of family, friends, and clubmates. Nothing could dampen their spirits or stop them from giving their best.
Kicking things off for Boyne AC were Conor Hughes and Stella Gow, who competed in the Under-10s 800m race. Both athletes, proudly wearing the club’s colors in their first-ever Leinster competition, stayed on the heels of the leaders throughout the race.
Although they narrowly missed out on podium finishes, their performances demonstrated the potential that is emerging from the Boyne AC ranks. The future certainly looks bright for these young runners.
The Under-12 2000m race was up next, and Boyne AC’s Caitlin Hughes delivered a remarkable performance. In what was one of the most competitive races of the day, Caitlin held her own and finished strong, cementing her place as one to watch in the future.
Shortly after, Will Gow took on the boys’ Under-12 2,000m race. With determination in every stride, he not only ran a fantastic race but also helped his Louth county team secure a silver medal,a proud moment for Boyne AC.
In the boys’ Under-14 3000m race, Eoin McEntee continued Boyne AC’s strong showing. Another superb run saw him help the Louth county team to a bronze medal, a testament to his stamina and perseverance.
Shauna Rice faced tough conditions in the Under-16 girls’ 4000m race. As the ground became heavier and stickier with every lap, Shauna powered through, finishing in a super time and showing the resilience Boyne AC athletes are known for.
Following her, Seamus Keenan took on the boys’ Under-16 4000m, setting a fantastic time and helping his county team to a well-earned sixth place. Seamus’s efforts did not go unnoticed by the cheering Boyne AC supporters.
The Keenan family’s impressive day continued with Eilish Keenan’s performance in the girls’ Under-18 4000m race. On the same tricky course, Eilish showcased her long-distance stamina, running a brilliant race and finishing strongly. With more to come from Eilish, she remains a standout athlete for the club, known for her endurance and determination.
Rounding off the day for Boyne AC was Jack Garvey, who tackled the tough 6000m course and crossed the line in a fine time of 18:05. His performance helped the Louth team secure a commendable fourth place overall, capping off another successful day for the club.
Despite the harsh weather conditions, Boyne AC athletes once again proved their mettle. The support from the sidelines, with cheers and applause ringing through the wind and rain, reflected the strong, united spirit of the club. As the day ended, all roads for Eoin McEntee and Will Gow lead to the All-Ireland Championships, where Boyne AC will no doubt continue to shine
