It’s great to see local bands coming good and moving up the ranks in the music world, especially after the last 18 months or so of enforced quiet.
Two weeks ago we broke the news that Modern Love had signed a worldwide deal and now it’s the turn of Rowdy Outsider to make the headlines with a new single called “Fall Away.”
We’ve featured Rowdy Outsider a couple of times before on these pages because theirs is a great local story. They all went St. Mary’s Diocesan school where they formed their first band.
With schooldays behind them, the lads hit the road with their music honing their skills en route. They were making a great name for themselves on the Irish gigging scene and had just released their first single at a memorable gig in Odd Mollies just before the worldwide pandemic brought the world to a shuddering halt.
But now they’re back!
Back recording and, hopefully, back gigging as soon as they possibly can, Rowdy Outsider are like greyhounds straining to be released from the traps.
According to a press release from the band’s management “Fall Away” oozes Green Day meets My Chemical Romance.
“The indie-punk-rock tune dips into lush reverbs, gritty guitars, a mighty pallet of drums and a powerful, melodic pop sensibility that oozes the angst and frustration of falling away from a dissolving relationship and the realisation that things will drastically change forever.”
Very poetic, and of course that’s a biased opinion but when you listen to the track, you’ll find yourself agreeing with them. It does have that angsty feel to it. Basically it’s a bloody great pop song delivered by a band that has learned the hard way, the way of the road.
“While on the surface the song is a sombre ballad, Fall Away brings undertones of relief, hope and excitement for the future” says vocalist Matthew Doyle.
“Lyrically the song details the process of the breakup, giving us a raw insight into the mindset of the songwriter and an unfiltered viewpoint. The lyrics display an initial broken heart, quickly followed by clarity and the need for personal improvement.”
Most of all, this new single is a bold statement of intent from the lads, nothing is going to stop them on their way to where they want to be. With this polished performance they have resumed their onward journey in style.
