Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses following a serious three-vehicle collision on the R132 at Smithstown, Julianstown, after a man in his 50s died from his injuries.
The collision happened shortly after 2am on Saturday, 15th August 2026.
The man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment of serious injuries following the crash.
He was subsequently pronounced deceased on Friday, 4th September.
A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support his family.
Garda investigation continuing
The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators following the collision.
A Senior Investigating Officer has also been appointed to lead the investigation.
The original Garda appeal stated that the first collision happened at approximately 2.06am when two vehicles travelling southbound towards Dublin were involved in a rear-end collision.
Both vehicles then pulled in to the side of the road.
Around ten minutes later, a third vehicle collided with the rear of the second vehicle. The man who later died was standing at the rear of that vehicle at the time and sustained serious injuries.
Witnesses and dash-cam footage sought
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and who were travelling on the R132 near Smithstown, Julianstown between 1.30am and 2.30am on Saturday, 15th August, are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
