“There is no excuse for zero consultation” says Callan
Independent Councillor Kevin Callan has called on Louth County Council to immediately return several car parking spaces, including a disabled space, which have been removed from outside the Dominican Church He is also seeking an assurance that no further spaces will be removed.
Councillor Callan says he has been contacted by local people who use the spaces and also local businesses who are at a loss as to why they have been removed.
The move, coming as it does just ahead of the Christmas shopping season, is being heavily criticised by Councillor Callan.
“The spaces serviced local businesses and also allowed people to park without having to keep trying to find a space on West Street” he said.
“I am requesting the council clarify why this was done, there was no consultation that I am aware of in terms of pay parking facilities being removed with the elected members which allowed for parking for customers of local businesses.
“Further to this the disabled space was importantly located near the church where people had previously been attending mass, but also the space had easy access to Dominic’s Bridge and the ramparts”.
“This may well be something to do with the Dominican Church or Dominic’s Bridge works” Callan said but, he added “…there is no excuse for zero consultation and we need to be keeping every single car parking space in the town centre area that we can.
“I will be liaising with the Council and the people who brought this to my attention”.
