With just one year left to run on the deal for the temporary driver test centre which is currently housed at the Drogheda Town Football Club in Marian Park, there is still no decision on a permanent base for the service in the town.
Nor has there been any formal contact between Road Safety Authority (RSA) and Louth County Council since the pre-planning meeting.
The RSA has confirmed to local Deputy Ged Nash that “no decision has been made” on a site for a permanent driving test centre for Drogheda. Deputy Nash said he was shocked at the revelation.
“The people of the town have been led to understand that the preferred site for the new centre is on Council owned property in Mell. The fact that a decision has yet to be made on this is very worrying indeed.
“It is especially concerning in light of the fact that the arrangement with Drogheda Town FC for the temporary centre comes to an end next February.
“Furthermore, Louth County Council has confirmed to me that they have had no contact with the RSA in recent months, since an initial pre-planning meeting took place. This is astonishing.
“The people of Drogheda cannot be sold another pup in this never-ending driving test centre saga. We need a permanent centre. A decision must be made on the site now.
“The clock is ticking and the RSA must engage with Louth County Council again and in some detail to ensure that this project gets back on track.”
