Drogs seek support to become Healthy Football League (HFL) Champions

Drogheda United Football Club are seeking the support of their fans and clubs in the wider community in a new initiative called the Healthy Football League which kicks off today, March 1st and will run for the next three months.

The objective of this initiative, launched by the FAI with support from Bank of Ireland, is to encourage the League of Ireland community to become healthier by being active. All League of Ireland clubs, fans and supporters will compete against each other to become Healthy Football League (HFL) Champions.

The HFL is an App based Community Health programme which uses the good-natured rivalry and banter of LOI fans to encourage and motivate them, their families and friends to get active.

Fans can score points for their club by walking, running or cycling and these points will be allocated to your club, effectively affecting the club’s position on the HFL table.

As well as this being a great way for fans and the local community to get behind their team and help them climb to the top of the table over coming weeks, there’s also a prize fund of €30,000 up for grabs

Drogheda Utd are encouraging all their supporters to download the Healthy Football League app (available for Android or IOS). Once you have downloaded and configured the app, choose Drogheda United as your club and your sub-group, the app will record your movements and will register points for you which will go towards the overall club total points.

At midnight on Monday the 28th of February, all accumulated points will be reset to zero and the competition begins come March 1st to be Ireland’s healthiest football club.

Partners, Schools and Affiliate clubs of Drogheda United can also participate with prizes available each month for the best performing grassroots club and school.

When setting up the app, choose Drogheda Utd as your League of Ireland club and then select your own club as the sub-group. This way you will be contributing points to both your own club and to Drogs in the overall league.

The €30K cash prize fund will be distributed as follows:

  • The overall winning LOI club finishing top of the table at midnight on the 31st May 2022 will receive €15,000 plus a special custom-designed HFL trophy.
  • 3 x monthly cash prizes of €3,000 to the most active LOI clubs during March, April & May. It’s also possible that one LOI club could win up to €24,000.
  • The overall winning grassroots club will receive a cash prize of €3,000 plus a special custom-designed HFL trophy.
  • The overall winning school will receive a cash prize of €3,000 plus a special custom-designed HFL trophy.
