A great day out in Duleek for Boyne AC

The focus was on Duleek last Sunday for the annual Mc Nally’s Pharmacy 5k, hosted by Duleek and District Athletics Club.

This was one of the last race’s that Boyne AC seniors participated in, before the world locked down almost two years ago, so it was with great excitement that sixteen Boyne AC members once again made the short journey to support a local club in their event.

The new route for this year’s race got the thumbs up from all who took part, with fast times all round, despite the strong winds along the course.

First over the finish line for Boyne AC was Barry Sullivan in a super 21.21, followed closely by brothers; Jack, Harry and Louis Devitt who all ran excellent times of 23.42, 25.26 and 28.11 respectively.

Next to finish for Boyne was club captain Jack O’Donoghue in a time of 26.01, with Louise and Katie Fagan next to finish in 26.52, a PB for the fast improving Katie, followed closely by Ola Raji and Mairead Hallinan in 26.59, both returning to form after recent injury and illness.

Gemma Fogarty and Nicola Stafford, both in their first race for the club, finished in 27.25, a PB for both and were kept company by Eimear Rickard and Nicola Veale as pacers.

Deirdre Cadden, who was aiming to finish sub 30, smashed her target with a 28.46 thanks to pacer Rebecca Carolan with Deirdre’s mam, Joan, finishing in a fine 33.04.

A great day out for Boyne AC, who are delighted to be back racing as a club once again, and special mention to the dedicated supporters who were out in force, giving that extra push as the going got tough towards the end!
