Between writing poems for Ashling Murphy whose murder touched the heart of the nation, Charlie Bird who raised millions for Motor Neuron Disease, and writing songs, Drogheda poet Anthony Matthews has found a rich seam of creativity in recent months.
Busy and all as he has been, Anthony has managed to find time to finish his second collection of poems and “small stories” called Another Stroll Down Memory Lane which he is launching at The Barbican Centre in William Street this Saturday 16th April 3-5pm and everyone is invited.
The culmination of more than two years work, the book focuses on local, seasonal, and social poetry. Additionally there are testaments to loved ones, songs, sport, and craic feature within the 112 pages.
Declan Power has kindly offered the facilities at the Barbican Centre to host the event on Easter’s Holy Saturday. Fittingly, Anthony’s poem ‘Easter’ will feature at the launch.
Turned to song by Drogheda’s Cormac Judge, Anthony said that he is delighted with Cormac’s kind offer to be present on the day to perform the song. Other song lyrics include ‘The Lonely Soldier’, ‘Drogheda’ and ‘Industrial Smiles’ all recorded and produced by Drogheda man David ‘Swan’ Montgomery.
Anthony, determined to keep business local, the book is printed by Anglo Printers and is designed by Jolene Matthews and includes works by local artists, Ged McMahon, Ken Fallon, Greg Flanagan, and Jimmy Weldon.
Thanking the local businesses that kindly sponsored a page in the book Anthony stated, ‘the eagerness to contribute, the generosity, and the outpouring of local support was overwhelming’.
All are welcome to the launch, and for those at home or abroad unable to attend, the book €12 + P&P. is available by contacting Anthony on 087-6115731 or via PM on his Facebook Page.
