Boyne AC members travelled to Bush on Sunday last for something just a little bit different – the inaugural ‘Come and Try day’ for athletes with Down Syndrome.
A beautiful sunny day with the Cooley Mountains for a backdrop, saw a large turnout of athletes from all over the country, all eager to try out the different athletic disciplines.
Boyne AC’s very own Lucia Rose Byrne was eager to try everything on offer and had a great day of fun and laughs with her peers.
Lucia Rose hails from a very athletic family, with older brothers Adam and Calum regular medal winners at both local and provincial athletics events, while dad Keith is one of Boyne ACs head coaches, and mum Ellen very involved in the club too.
This time however, it was all eyes on Lucia Rose, as she ran a super sprint on the track, taking the win and the top spot on the medal winners podium, the first of many to come for this young lady we are sure!
The event was hosted by Glenmore AC and supported by Athletics Ireland and the Down Syndrome Ireland Louth/Meath branch.

Also in action on the weekend, some of Boyne ACs senior members took part in the annual Duleek Cystic Fibrosis 10K Remembrance Run on Sunday last.
A sunny, but windy day tested the hundreds of participants who all ran or walked the tough route.
First to cross the line for Boyne was Mark Dowling, closely followed by Rebecca Carolan, with Cormac Reilly not too far behind as he makes a great return to running following injury.
