TV news footage of the Israeli army shelling hospitals and civilians in Gaza is sickening. You’d need a heart of stone not to find the images of death and destruction being wreaked on the civilian population by the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu as terrifying and unacceptable.
It’s a similar story in Ukraine which has been terrorised by the madman Putin for years and when you hear the bellicose comments being spewed out by the fake tan liar, cheat, rapist and former US president Donald Trump, you’d nearly want to turn over to the fantasy world of the soaps!
It’s all very depressing and leaves viewers with a sense of helplessness and thinking “it’s shocking but what can I do?”
Millions of people around the world have taken to the streets to show their disgust at these war crimes going unchecked and demanding some meaningful response from the international community.
In Drogheda a locally based coalition of concerned citizens and activist groups called Drogheda Stands with Palestine has been gathering at noon every Saturday on the steps of St. Peter’s Church in West Street to protest.
Drogheda Stands with Palestine has also been fundraising for humanitarian aid for the citizens of Palestine and to date they have raised €7,105 which will be given directly to the Palestinian Red Crescent organisation.
In a statement issued today the group’s spokesperson Stephanie Kirwan thanked the people of Drogheda for their incredibly generous donations.
“These were raised through the Gig for Gaza in McHughs Venue on February 9th and the Table Quiz for Gaza on the 15th in Sarsfields Bar, both sold out and were a huge success” she said.
“Donations were also collected through various individual donations raised both at the weekly vigils held every Saturday at 12 noon since on West street since October and online.
“Drogheda Stands with Palestine wish to express their deep appreciation for the kind and unwavering support of our townspeople, and urge people to keep talking about Palestine.
“Drogheda Stands with Palestine would also like to extend an invitation to the people of Drogheda to join us at our weekly protests at 12pm on West Street (across from the front of the Town Centre).”
