Boyne Hockey Has a Cracking Summer and Gears Up for the New Season

Although usually classed as a winter sport, Boyne Hockey’s budding players took advantage of the warm weather, soaking up the sunshine during the club’s annual summer camp.

The week-long camp was led by senior coaches and rookies, who focused on teaching and developing key hockey skills and drills.

To add extra fun and a competitive element, players took part in a daily World Cup tournament. These mixed-ability teams gave novice players a great chance to interact with more experienced members and put their new skills into practice.

Meanwhile, the Boyne senior team has returned to pre-season training with a special programme led by professional coach David McGivern.

As Head Coach for Ireland’s U18s, McGivern’s guidance will give the Boyne ladies a strong foundation for their regular training sessions this season.

The club has seen significant growth in recent years, with an increase in team numbers across all levels, including the introduction of Hockey ID for players with intellectual disabilities.

This season, Boyne Hockey is focused on expanding its membership, particularly for its junior mixed and older boys’ teams.

The club highlighted that hockey is a great social and team sport, and its training schedules complement other sports, making it easy to combine with existing commitments.
