Trim and the surrounding areas has an abundance to offer for those looking for intimate, relaxing, and fulfilling experiences, and for those just looking for something laid back and light-hearted. Trim’s natural beauty and historical atmosphere provides for the perfect contemplative backdrop against fun filled days and chilled out evenings. Here are 5 of the best activities available to the public in Trim!
- The Hot Box Sauna Bective Mill Just a quick ten minute drive from Trim town, these Finnish style saunas are situated right on the edge of the River Boyne, on the same property as Bective Mill. The location is remarkably tranquil, with the quiet green surrounds and the ambient flow of the river perfectly complimenting the stylish wooden saunas. It’s €15 for 45 minutes, and having visited
this sauna many times I can say it’s the best sauna I’ve been to by a longshot. It opens Monday to Sunday, 8am to 10pm.
- StockHouse Restaurant The StockHouse restaurant is located very close to Trim Castle, in Emmet House. StockHouse has a 4.5 out of 5 average from 744 reviews making it a clear winner amongst the pack, with a familiar and traditional menu. Their food is homemade wherever possible, and nothing is frozen. They cater for birthdays, work parties and more, making The StockHouse perfect for a casual stroll in or a planned visit.
- The River Spa The River Spa is located at the Knightsbrook Hotel at Dublin Road, Iffernock, Trim. Their treatments range from around €70-€170 depending on the type and duration of the treatment. The River Spa specializes in tranquility pro-sleep massage. It opens Monday to Sunday 10am to 6pm. A trip to The River Spa would be a perfect gift for anyone in your life who deserves a rest (that anyone may be you). It works even better when you’re stressed!
- The Boyne Blueway The Boyne Blueway starts in Trim and goes along the river for 8 kilometers to Bective. The Boyne Valley Activities Centre provides kayaks for hire among other services and provides a shuttlebus service that drops those who do the Blueway back to Trim from Bective. Along the way you will see historical sites along the banks, and beautiful pastoral Meath. Perfect for a sunny morning or a settled dusky evening. For those who like a challenge, it can of course be done in any weather!
- Balrath Woods Balrath Woods is a 20 minute drive from Trim, just at the turnoff for Slane on the N2. The woods was once part of the Somerville estate. It is a mostly deciduous woodland, replanted in 1969. There is a long walk, a nature walk and an easy walk, along with play areas, and there are informational signs along the way, making a walk in Balrath Woods informative, peaceful and
varied.
There is wonderful opportunity here to blend one activity with another, such as The Hotbox Sauna and The Stockhouse Restaurant. An evening visit to the sauna with a good friend and a hearty homemade meal at The Stockhouse together is something beautiful, I can say from experience.
Likewise, a couple could start the day with kayaking on The Boyne Blueway and end the day in quiet and restorative bliss at The River Spa. Though sometimes one activity is enough for the day, maybe you have other plans! So just take a quick scenic stroll in the Balrath Woods and go on with your day in peace.
