On Thursday, a total of sixteen motorists were caught on the roads across County Louth driving with no insurance.
It was part of a day-long crackdown by the Garda’s Road Policing Unit in the county and all those caught breaking the law are now facing prosecution.
The Gardai said:” Divisional Road Policing Units from Dundalk and Drogheda carried out an operation on Thursday to detect non insured drivers on our roads.
” Sixteen vehicles were detained for no insurance across the county and these drivers will be prosecuted before the district court.
” A number of other detections for not wearing a seat belt , holding mobile phone and drug driving were also detected.”
The Gardai are planning a continuing crackdown on drink and drug driving in the run up to Christmas and motorists have been warned if they are going out for a few drinks to leave their vehicles at home.
