OUR Generation is thrilled to announce that six exciting young musical acts from Donegal, Newry, and Drogheda are set to perform at Vantastival, a popular music and campervan festival, this September.
These talented youngsters will take to the stage as part of the OUR Generation Project.
The groups heading to Vantastival have been actively involved with OUR Generation through the partner organisation Donegal Youth Service, as well as local community hubs where OUR Generation has been delivering programmes, including Boomerang Youth Café in Drogheda and The Magnet Centre in Newry.
Their performances will be part of the official line-up at the family-friendly independent music festival, held right here in Drogheda, County Louth.
This initiative perfectly embodies OUR Generation’s mission to champion cross-border peacebuilding efforts for young people across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland.
The OUR Generation project receives support from PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) under the theme of ‘Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing’.
Sean McCluskey, the OUR Generation Youth Worker from Donegal Youth Service, based here in Drogheda, was instrumental in securing this fantastic slot to showcase young people from the project at the festival.
He commented: “This is a brilliant opportunity for these young bands who are just starting out. But it’s about more than just music, really; it’s about bringing young people together across borders, building peace and connection through creativity, giving young people a platform, as well as confidence and belief in themselves.”
This exciting news follows Donegal Youth Service’s recent success with another Party in the Park event in Letterkenny, which this year was part of the Earagail Arts Festival.
Now in its 19th year, Party in the Park shares the same ethos of creating a family-friendly event whilst providing a platform for young people – something OUR Generation has been delighted to be involved with over the past few years.
Sean added: “We all know the power of music and the arts in bringing people together and providing our youth with a platform to be creative, to express themselves and have their voices heard. We are delighted to be able to give these young people that opportunity and we can’t wait to see and hear them perform live.”
