A business delegation from West and North Yorkshire visited Drogheda last week as part of a new effort to build stronger trade and commercial links between the two regions.
The visit brought companies from sectors including finance, manufacturing and hospitality to Drogheda to meet local businesses and learn more about the town and wider M1 Corridor.
The trade mission follows earlier discussions between Drogheda and the West and North Yorkshire region, which includes cities such as Leeds, Bradford and York.
Drogheda and District Chamber CEO Hubert Murphy said the visit was focused on building practical relationships between businesses on both sides.
“Networking and collaboration is vital as we build bridges across regions and West and North Yorkshire is one of those partners we are delighted to have on board,” he said.
Local businesses meet Yorkshire counterparts
The visit began with a gathering at The Mill Enterprise Hub before the delegation met Chamber members and businesses from across the area.
The programme also included visits to a number of locations around Drogheda, including cultural and tourism attractions.
Chamber President Miriam Simon said international business relationships could create new opportunities for companies in the region and that the Chamber had a role to play in developing those connections.
West and North Yorkshire Chamber CEO James Mason said he was pleased with the visit and hoped Drogheda businesses would make a return trip to Yorkshire in 2027.
The Chamber said a number of new business connections were made during the visit.
Skills and training also on the agenda
As part of the wider programme, M1 Drogheda Chamber Skillnet hosted a separate gathering of industry leaders at Scholars Hotel.
The event focused on skills shortages, workforce development and the need for continued training across different sectors.
It also highlighted the role Skillnet can play in supporting businesses to develop staff and respond to changing skills requirements.
The trade mission is part of a wider effort by Drogheda and District Chamber to build relationships outside the region and create new opportunities for local companies along the M1 Corridor.
