Widespread shock as Tullyallen woman shot dead in New York

There was widespread grief and shock on both sides of the Atlantic over the weekend as news filtered through of the shooting dead of Tullyallen woman Denise Morgan on Saturday at her home in New York.  

Denise died in the early hours of Saturday morning at her apartment home in the Queens area of New York. Neighbours in the apartment block told NYPD officers that they heard the couple arguing and then several shots ringing out.

Police were at the scene within minutes and found the bodies of 39-year-old Denise and a 33-year-old man who is believed to have been her partner. They found a gun beside the man’s body.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) said a man and a woman were found in the borough of Queens in the city with gunshot wounds to their heads.

The NYPD said “a firearm was recovered in the vicinity of the deceased male”.

Officers were called at 02:44 local time (07:44 BST) on Saturday. The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else and are satisfied the man, believed to be American, killed Denise before turning the gun on himself.

Denise Morgan’s family are heartbroken.

Ms Morgan’s family posted tributes on social media, saying they were “heartbroken”. Writing on Facebook, Denise’s sister Lisa said:

Thank you so much for your kind words about our beautiful sister ❤️ we appreciate them so much and it eases the pain a little to know how much she was loved.

We love you forever and always baby sister until we meet again, our lives will never be the same again ðŸ'”ðŸ'”ðŸ'”
