The magnificent reputation which Drogheda has built up over the years in Classical and Choral Music Recitals will be further enhanced when Morriston RFC, a top male choir from Wales, will visit Drogheda for a week to take in choral engagements in various parts of the country.
During the time they will be staying in Drogheda, they will join with the Drogheda Male Voice Choir and Soprano, Amie Dyer, to perform an “Amazing Concert” for the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre in St Peter’s Church of Ireland on Peter Street which will take place Thursday the 30th of October at 8pm.
The Morriston Male Choir will arrive in Drogheda on Tuesday the 28th of October having already taken part in a concert with the Dublin Welsh Choir in Dublin. They will perform in two recitals whilst they are in Drogheda and will travel to Cavan Town where they will sing on the Tuesday night.
Morriston RFC Male Choir member and trip organiser, Duncan Lewis, says; “We are very much looking forward to our trip to Ireland and particularly to Drogheda. We have three recitals lined up with our Welsh Dublin friends and also in Cavan where we join with the Cavan RFC Male Choir for a recital.
“We are delighted to have been facilitated by the Drogheda Male Voice Choir, whom we know from their visits to Wales and their singing in the Festival of Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall. We are also delighted to have the opportunity to sing for such a worthy cause as the Gary Kelly Cancer Centre.
“Drogheda is ideally situated for our stay because it’s so convenient to Dublin and Belfast and we will be visiting historical places in and around the town such as Millmount, Newgrange and the Battle of the Boyne site before we go back to Wales on the Friday.”
Tom O’Reilly, chairman of the Drogheda Male Voice Choir, in welcoming the Morriston Male Choir says; “We are delighted to facilitate the Morriston RFC Male Choir on their visit and introduce them to the town of Drogheda and all its significant historical sites.
“Whilst we very much look forward to joining them in choral unison, we will also have a ‘meet and greet’ reception for them in the Black Bull Inn on the Wednesday night. I’m sure our Celtic heritage will be convivially shared with perhaps an impromptu ‘sing song’ during the evening”.
Tickets for the “Amazing Concert” are available from the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre and ticket enquiries can be facilitated at 041 9831711. Admission to the concert is €20.
