Veteran’s Club celebrates a year of resilience and camaraderie post-covid

In a year marked by solidarity and unwavering commitment to the well-being of ex-servicemen and women, the Veteran’s Club of Ireland, which was founded in 2018 in Drogheda, is pleased to share its remarkable achievements since the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

Embracing Remembrance: Annual Pat Clark Memorial Walk

The club kicked off the year with the annual Pat Clark Memorial Walk, a heartfelt tribute to a well-regarded member lost to Covid-19. The walk, set along the scenic Boyne Camino in February, symbolised the club’s dedication to honouring the memory of those who have served.

A Year of Local Exploration

Over the past 12 months, the Veteran’s Club has organized more than 30 local walks, offering members and their families the opportunity to connect with nature and each other.

From historic outings to Russborough House, Carrickmacross Workhouse & Museum, the Tin Church in Laragh, Rokeby Hall, and the Armagh Conservatory, to the excitement of the Defence Forces Open Day in Farmleigh House, the club’s engagement has been both diverse and educational.

Pilgrimage Along the Camino: Vigo to Santiago de Compostela

In a fabulous journey filled with laughter, song and craic, club members covered the more than 100km stretch of the Camino, fostering camaraderie and resilience. This pilgrimage not only provided physical challenges but also strengthened the bonds of the Veterans Club community and their supporters.

Generosity Beyond Borders

The spirit of giving was alive and well as the Veterans Club concluded the year with impactful donations exceeding €1,000. In December alone, the club contributed €300 each to the Drogheda Women’s & Children’s Refuge and Drogheda Homeless Aid, while donating €400 to the Gary Kelly Centre. A heartfelt donation was also made to support the appeal for a deceased ex-serviceman’s grave marking.

As the Veterans Club of Ireland looks ahead to the coming year, its commitment to supporting the physical and mental well-being of ex-servicemen and women and their families remains unwavering. The club anticipates even more engaging activities, community outreach, and opportunities for its members to connect, grow, and thrive.
