Two men remanded in custody after late-night court hearing over Halloween IPAS centre fire

Two men have appeared before a special late-night sitting of Drogheda District Court charged in connection with the fire at an IPAS accommodation centre on George’s Street, Drogheda, on Halloween night.

The hearing took place at 9pm on Thursday evening.

One of the men is from Bettystown, while the other is from Ardee. Both are aged in their twenties and were arrested earlier this week by Gardaí investigating the suspected arson attack that left 28 asylum seekers homeless.

At the hearing, both were charged with arson-related offences linked to the blaze at the residential property.

After hearing an outline of the Garda evidence, Judge Nicola Andrews refused bail and remanded both men in custody to appear again before Drogheda District Court on Monday.

The investigation into the fire remains ongoing.
