A window of an Aontu councillor’s house has been smashed by unknown thugs.
This is the third threatening incident that Dave Boyne and his family have suffered at their home in Trim, Co Meath in recent months.
But the brave politician vowed that the intimidation and harassment will not shut him up and he will always speak his mind.
Condemning last weekend’s attack Cllr Boyne fumed:” This is the third time someone has violated my home. First my jeep was covered in eggs, then someone defecated on my property, and now this.
“I believe this could be the work of extreme left-wing groups who have targeted me before.
“I have heard of other councillors being hassled. I’ve been accused of being a fascist and a racist, and I am sometimes publicly accosted by ill informed people.
“But this is a new low – this is a criminal act.”
Cllr Boyne said he is now very concerned for the safety of his family and worries if they are safe in their own home.
He stated:”I feel sorry for my wife and five kids , having to face the trauma of these petty, feeble minded attacks . But I am not intimated.
“Whoever they are, they’re too cowardly to meet me face to face . I take it all as a compliment – obviously Aontu is doing something right.”
He also said he accepts people are angry and there is public frustration with the state of politics but he believes that anger is being misdirected and should be aimed at those in power – Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.
Aontu has been extremely critical of the Government’s immigration policies and their failure to stop large numbers seeking political asylum here.
The party has also demanded the authorities take political intimidation seriously and ensure all politicians can carry out their duties free from violence and harassment.
