On Wednesday evening next, August 11th community historian Brendan Matthews will present another of his popular History and Heritage walking tours beginning at the Old Hill car-park opposite Millmount and behind the Millmount Bar at 7.30 p.m.
The theme of this walk is “Taking a Walk on the Meath Side” during which Brendan will outline the origins and establishment of the Norman colonists on the south-side of the Boyne River in the 12th century.
The Walk n Talk proceeds to the area of St. Mary`s Church overlooking the beautiful Dale Valley where tales of Drogheda`s storied past will be relayed.
The focus then then shifts to the rear of the medieval Town Wall behind St. Mary`s Church through Clinton`s Lane to Coolagh Street and Priests Lane to the area of the former medieval Duleek Gate.
The Walk n talk will then proceed through Sarah`s Lane to Mount St. Oliver and finish within the Courtyard of Millmount where Brendan will bring the evening to a close with some great tales of `Old Drogheda`.
There is no charge for this event but donations for the continued research and study of community history will be greatly appreciated on the evening.
