A coordinated emergency response helped prevent tragedy in Drogheda on Sunday morning, 26 October 2025, after a person entered the water near Fiddle Case Pier.
At approximately 11:30am, the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery emergency pager crew was activated following reports of a person in distress near the Sunshine Bar. Security staff at Scotch Hall Shopping Centre, who had observed the incident unfolding, quickly went to assist.
As they approached, the individual moved towards the pier and entered the water. Thanks to the swift and professional response of the Scotch Hall security team, the person was successfully extracted from the water at a nearby exit point.
Moments later, Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery’s mobile unit and inshore rescue boat arrived on scene to assist with casualty care. The individual was then handed over to the National Ambulance Service for further treatment.
The incident was also supported by members of the Garda Regional Armed Support Unit, who happened to be in the area at the time.
Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery commended the teamwork on display, noting that Scotch Hall security staff had previously completed training with the rescue team on how to respond to such incidents.
