Storm Bram prompts status Red Marine warnings and Local Flooding

Many parts of the Drogheda area have been badly affected by Storm Bram this evening.

The Drogheda to Queenborough Road, Baltray is currently impassable due to debris from high tides while there were also reports of flooding along the Boyne in parts of the town.

Traffic was slow moving especially the North Strand and Greenhills areas earlier.

Motorists were warned to be extremely careful especially with the threat of falling trees and flying debris. Many falling trees have been reported around the North-East.

People are also warned to stay away from the Boyne and local coastal areas because of the rough seas and high tides.

Some very strong offshore winds have also been reported and conditions were extremely difficult in Mornington,Bettystown and Laytown.The R10 in Laytown was flooded between the Railway Bridge while the road at Oldbridge is impassable along with the road at Rossnaree.

 Sandbags have been deployed in some risk areas right across the north-east.

Matthew Martin of Met Eirean says it is vital that people stay away from the coast for their own safety.

He said:” We have issued Status red marine warnings for coastal waters and wind speeds in some areas will reach violent Storm Force 11 at times. Southern and Western coastal areas will feel the biggest impact but all areas will receive strong winds.”
