Status Yellow Rain Warning Continues as Flooding Impacts Parts of Louth

A Status Yellow Rain Warning remains in place for County Louth until 9pm on Tuesday, 3 February, as heavy and persistent rainfall continues to affect the area.

Louth County Council said that rainfall throughout the day caused localised flooding in several locations across the county. In Drogheda, flooding was reported at Wellington Quay, the R167 Boyne Road and the R150 Marsh Road, while the R167 at Queensborough, Baltray was left impassable.

The Ramparts walkway in Drogheda will remain closed for the rest of the week after the River Boyne burst its banks.

In Blackrock, Main Street was closed on Tuesday afternoon after high waves washed across the promenade at high tide. Road sweepers were deployed to clear debris and the road reopened shortly before 2pm.

In north Louth, parts of the road at Ballagan and Ballynamoney were badly undermined after debris was washed inland by the sea.

Met Éireann has advised that heavy and persistent rainfall is expected to continue through the week, with southern and eastern counties likely to be most affected.
