An excellent example of sport bringing children from different cultures together in a shared activity that can forge lifelong friendships has been taking place at St. Nicholas GFC in Drogheda for the past four years.
In June 2018, Chairman of St. Nicholas GFC, Des McDonald, took the initiative of inviting children from around the world but living at Mosney Village to take part in the club’s weekly Gaelic Football training sessions.
The club grounds at Pentony Park on the Rathmullan Road in Drogheda, are neighbouring the main primary and secondary schools attended by many of the children from Mosney Village which are St. John’s National School, St. Paul’s National School and St Oliver’s Community College.
Following on from the year-on-year inclusion of the children from Mosney Village, St. Nicholas’ work was honoured in the form of a prestigious Drogheda Mayoral Award in 2020.
Each year, Mosney Village chooses a worthy organisation, charity or voluntary group of their choice to sponsor in the form of JC Decaux Roadside Billboards.
This year, Mosney Village has chosen St. Nicholas Gaelic Football Club as one of their charity partners in recognition of the club’s very positive initiative ‘Integrating Communities through Gaelic Football’.
The roadside billboards will feature in prominent locations in Louth, Meath and Dublin throughout June to promote the initiative and to advertise for new members.
