The recent “random attacks” on members of the Indian community in Ireland have been met with outrage from Aontú’s Louth Representative, Michael O’Dowd.
In a passionate statement, he condemned the violence, calling it “shameful and unacceptable.”
O’Dowd didn’t mince words, expressing his frustration with the situation. “I am appalled, and frankly, angry at this situation. It is so unfair and unjust,” he said.
He highlighted the crucial role the community plays, a point particularly relevant to the local area. “In Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda… Indian doctors, nurses and carers play a vital role in keeping our health services running,” he noted.
“Their dedication and professionalism make a real difference to patients and families every single day.”
With around 90,000 Indian people now living in Ireland, O’Dowd emphasized that they are an integral part of the country. He argued that these attacks harm not only the victims but also the fabric of the community itself.
His message was a clear call to action for the public: “This is a time for us to stand together, to speak up for what is right, and to show kindness to our Indian friends, colleagues and neighbours. They deserve our gratitude, our respect and support.”
