Severe Flooding Hits Drogheda as River Boyne Overflows

Drogheda experienced significant flooding this afternoon after the River Boyne burst its banks due to spring tides.

The Baltray Road was left under water, while parts of St Dominic’s Park were closed by Louth County Council for safety reasons.

Motorists were advised to avoid the North Strand, Merchants Quay and Wellington Quay as floodwaters surged through low lying areas of the town.

Several shop owners in the town centre were seen preparing sandbags in an effort to protect their premises from rising water levels. It is understood to be the worst flooding in the town centre for some time.

The flooding follows further disruption last week when the Seapoint Road in Termonfeckin became impassable due to flooding, leaving some residents stranded in their homes.

Mayor Michelle Hall shared footage of the flooding on the Baltray Road and urged people to take extra care while travelling, advising motorists to avoid affected areas where possible.
