Despite Covid-19 restrictions and a reduced footfall in West Street, the Drogheda Rotary Club raised a remarkable €6,800 for local charities with their annual Remembrance Tree Appeal in the week running up to Christmas 2020.
Although this sum was well down on previous years it is still an amazing achievement considering they were working under strict Covid 19 regulations which restricted them to the one location thereby effectively reducing their fundraising capacity by at least two thirds.
The Rotary Remembrance Tree has been a regular feature of Christmas in Drogheda since 2007 and in that time it has raised almost €200,000 for local charities.
All of the money raised will go to help local charities including: Drogheda Homeless Aid, Drogheda Women’s Refuge, Alzheimer’s (Drogheda), Samaritans and the Family Resource Centre (Moneymore).
Karl Allen, President of the Drogheda Rotary Club said, “we are thrilled with the support from all the people in and around Drogheda especially during these very challenging times.”
