President pays tribute to Drogheda Pantomime Society on 75th anniversary

Drogheda Pantomime Society opens its 75th anniversary production at the Barbican Centre in Drogheda tonight, marking a significant milestone for one of the town’s longest running cultural organisations.

To mark the occasion, President of Ireland Catherine Connolly has sent a message of congratulations to the Society, acknowledging its contribution to community life in Drogheda over the past 75 years.

Opening in Irish, the President writes, “Seolaim mo chomhghairdeas ó chroí do gach ball de Shochaí Geamaireachta Droichead Átha agus sibh ag céiliúradh 75 bliain ar an bhfód.”

“For the past three quarters of a century, the Drogheda Pantomime Society has brought joy, creativity and a deep sense of togetherness to the people of Drogheda and beyond,” she says.

She describes pantomime as “inclusive, joyful, humorous, and rooted in shared experience,” adding that the Society continues to offer “laughter, connection and belonging, year after year.”

The President also pays tribute to the generations of volunteers, performers and supporters who have sustained the Society, thanking those who have given their time, talent and commitment to keep the tradition alive.

Founded in 1951, Drogheda Pantomime Society has become part of the shared memories of local families, with productions staged in venues across the town over the decades.

This year’s anniversary show runs over two weekends at the Barbican Centre, continuing a tradition that remains firmly rooted in the heart of Drogheda.
