Plans lodged for 188 bedroom hotel on south side of Drogheda

A planning application has been made for a badly needed 188 room brand new hotel on the northside of Drogheda.

It has been made by Slieve League Hotel Ltd to Meath County Council for a site on the IDA Business and Technology Park on the Donore road in the town. The exact location is situated west of the Audi dealership on the road.

The new hotel will be five stories in height and also consist of a lobby, bar and lounge areas, dining area, meeting rooms, gym, conference room, plus a green roof and plant at roof level.

The entrance to the proposed new hotel will be via the existing entrance to the IDA estate and there will be 193 car parking spaces plus pedestrian and cyclist access points.A Natura Impact Statement for the development has also been submitted to the planners and is available for the public to see at the Meath County Council offices.

The planning application for the hotel was submitted on May 26th last.

There are currently only a handful of hotels available for tourists and business people in Drogheda following the use of the D Hotel as an IPAS centre. The contract with the Dept of Justice was recently renewed for another year.

If the new hotel gets the go-ahead it will be seen as a huge boost for the town and is easily accessible to visitors coming off the M1 motorway.

It is also extremely close to the Bru na Boinne Newgrange national monument visitors centre in Donore and also the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge is only a few miles away.

Slieve League hotel is a family run business that currently runs a hotel in the village of Carrick, Co Donegal.
