Over 65,000 Students Received Leaving Cert Results Today

Over 65,000 Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied candidates received their provisional results today, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.

Students can access their results from 10 am via the State Examinations Commission’s (SEC) Candidate Self Service Portal at www.examinations.ie. Schools have also been asked to support students throughout the day.

The SEC’s Chairperson, Ms. Jacinta Stewart, congratulated the class of 2025, stating they should be “proud of your efforts and all that you have achieved.”

The SEC confirmed that this year’s results include a post-marking adjustment, a statistical measure designed to ease students back to pre-pandemic grading standards.

The adjustment places the overall results for 2025 at a point broadly midway between the high grades of 2020/2021 and the pre-pandemic levels of 2019.

The aim is to ensure a gradual reduction in outcomes while avoiding a “cliff-edge” drop in grades.

The number of students taking the exam has increased, with the overall cohort up by 7.6%. The Leaving Cert Established programme saw an increase of 7.3%, while the Leaving Certificate Applied programme was up by 11.2%.

Several subjects saw a notable rise in candidates this year:

  • Music: +21%

  • Spanish: +13%

  • Agricultural Science: +13%

  • Construction Studies: +13%

  • Technology: +11%

The number of students taking newer subjects continues to grow, with a 19% increase in Physical Education and a 25% increase in Computer Science. In a historic first, Ukrainian was examined, with 549 candidates taking the exam.

For students with questions, more detailed information, including component marks and the impact of the post-marking adjustment, will be available on the Candidate Self Service Portal next Tuesday.

The provisional date for the release of Leaving Certificate appeal results is Friday, 26th September.

The date for the Junior Cycle results is expected to be in line with last year’s.
