Over 22,000 Louth Workers Now Saving for Retirement through my Future Fund

Fianna Fáil TD Erin McGreehan has welcomed new figures showing that 22,330 workers in County Louth are now saving for their post retirement future through the Auto Enrolment Retirement Savings System.

The system, known as My Future Fund, was introduced by Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary and came into effect on 1 January 2026. It is designed to provide workers who previously had no pension provision with access to a quality assured retirement savings scheme.

Nationally, more than a quarter of the workforce from over 104,000 employers have now been automatically enrolled and are saving towards retirement. The sectors with the highest levels of enrolment include construction, retail and hospitality.

Deputy McGreehan said she was delighted to see more than 22,000 employees now investing in their futures through the scheme.

Commenting on the uptake, she said: My Future Fund is truly revolutionary in terms of pensions for Ireland, and for the workers of Louth. My Future Fund will benefit so many hardworking people over the coming years and decades, making sure they have more money in retirement than they otherwise would.

First discussed by then Fianna Fáil Minister for Social Protection, Séamus Brennan more than two decades ago, this transformative change has now been delivered by the current Fianna Fáil Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary.

Figures also show that more than 5,000 people have already opted into My Future Fund. This includes people earning less than €20,000 a year, as well as those aged between 18 and 22 or between 60 and 66.

Deputy McGreehan said the scheme will provide reassurance for workers as they plan for the future.

This is about giving working people peace of mind and it’s a simple way of knowing that today’s hard work that all employees do will support them tomorrow. This will provide employees with a solid foundation for their retirement.

Concluding, she said the scheme has made a strong start nationwide.

My Future Fund has started off on a strong footing. It is already supporting hundreds of thousands of workers nationwide so they can plan for their future.

She added that people in Louth who do not have pension cover and have not been automatically enrolled can choose to opt in through the participant portal at myfuturefund.ie.

She said Fianna Fáil recognises the significant contribution made by employees across the workforce and remains committed to ensuring working people have access to a secure and reliable pension as they prepare for retirement.
