Following on from the closure of the d Hotel, Aontú representative in Drogheda Michael O’Dowd has issued a call for the immediate reopening of the Bettystown Court Hotel and the establishment of a government task force under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach.
“This task force is necessary for coordinating swift and effective measures to address the economic shockwaves caused by the devastating closure” he said.
“To the forefront must be the immediate reopening of the Bettystown Court Hotel. Currently lying idle, its 120 rooms present a significant opportunity to reignite our tourism sector.
“It is crucial that this is made available for tourists who can stay there and commute to Drogheda using an excellent bus service. A task force needs to identify its owner, their concerns and bring it back into use. Its wrong that this remains empty.
“While education, health, and social welfare are undoubtedly vital concerns at this juncture they warrant separate consideration. But of immediate concern is the stabilisation of the local economy and mitigating the effects of this closure on Drogheda and its residents.
“Hotels not only provide local employment but also support local services, and serve as essential community infrastructure. Furthermore, hotels play a vital role as community hubs, providing sponsorship and fostering social cohesion.
“The loss of the d Hotel underscores the vulnerability of our local economy, and it is imperative that we act decisively and swiftly to prevent further economic fallout.”
