Nugent pledges to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities

Independent election candidate Peter James Nugent is a vocal advocate for the rights of people with disabilities in Louth, particularly in Drogheda and he wants to be a voice for them in the  Dáil.

During his previous run in the local elections, he met with the Irish Wheelchair Association and heard first-hand the frustrations of the disabled community regarding the lack of support for their needs.

“I believe there is a pressing need for more independent living options and for grants and adaptations to be provided to families in order to make their homes accessible” Nugent said.

He also highlights the issue of occupational speech therapy services being discontinued once a person turns 18, which he considers to be unacceptable.

He also proposes the implementation of a respite service for individuals aged 65 and older, in order to provide an alternative option to nursing homes.

“If elected to Dáil Éireann, I pledge to work towards improving and advocating for the rights of people with disabilities” he said.
